Get SET – Saving Energy Together

Get S.E.T. aims to transform Staffordshire primary school children into eco-warriors by showing them how to conserve energy at school.

Designed for pupils aged 9-11 years pupils take part in 5 Get SET missions culminating in a special “Get SET, Keep Cool” campaign week. Pupils record metre readings before and during the campaign week to see if they can successfully save energy in their school.

Mission 1: To find out all about Energy

Objectives:

  • Introduce the Get SET programme
  • To introduce concept of energy and energy stores
  • To understand how we currently meet our energy demands and the impact on the environment of our reliance on fossil fuels
  • Understand the terms renewable and non-renewable

Mission 2: To carry out an Energy Audit

Objectives:

  • Carry out an Energy Audit of the school
  • Report back on their findings
  • Additional investigation—do we use more energy now than our parents/grand parents at the same age?

Objectives:

  • To build on the previous session by reviewing their energy audit and identifying ways in which the school can save energy
  • Review the energy investigation from week 2
  • To plan and rehearse an assembly to promote, “Get SET, Keep Cool” week
